Eng Below 저는 서로 다른 존재 사이의 연결과 공명을 탐구하는 다분야 예술가입니다. 제 작업은 외로움, 연결되고 싶은 마음, 살아가기 위해 타인과 감각을 나누고자 하는 욕구와 참을 수 없는 고착된 개념에 관한 질문에서 시작됩니다. 왜 예술은 주로 ‘시각’의 언어로 불리는가. 왜 여성과 소수자의 서사는 신화와 제도 속에서 반복적으로 왜곡되거나 주변화되는가. 왜 예술은 제도 안에 속하기 위해 자신의 방향을 변질시켜야 하는가. 이러한 질문은 제 시선을 자연스럽게 권위와 권력의 구조, 그리고 그 바깥에 놓인 존재들에게로 향하게 했습니다. 저는 퍼티, 아크릴, 소금, 파라핀 등 물성을 가진 재료를 중첩하고 쌓아 올리며 균열, 흐름, 압력의 흔적을 화면과 공간 위에 남깁니다. 재료는 단순한 시각적 요소가 아니라 몸으로 감각되는 언어가 됩니다. 최근 작업은 회화에서 설치와 관객 참여형 작업으로 확장되며, 보는 행위를 넘어 만지고, 떼어가고, 안길 수 있는 경험을 실험합니다. 이를 통해 고착된 경계가 잠시 풀리고, 서로의 존재가 다시 감각되며, 눈에 보이지 않던 연결이 몸을 통해 다시 흐르기 시작하는 순간을 만들고자 합니다. - I am a multidisciplinary artist exploring connection and resonance between different beings. My practice begins with questions around loneliness, the longing to be connected, the desire to share sensation with others in order to survive, and the unbearable rigidity of fixed ideas. Why is art so often understood primarily through the language of sight? Why are the stories of women and minorities repeatedly distorted or pushed to the margins within myth, history, and institutional systems? Why must art alter its direction in order to belong within existing structures? These questions naturally lead my gaze toward systems of authority and power, and toward those who exist outside of them. Using materials such as putty, acrylic, salt, and paraffin, I layer and build physical substances, leaving traces of cracks, flow, and pressure across surfaces and spaces. For me, material is not merely a visual element, but a language sensed through the body. My recent work has expanded from painting into installation and participatory forms, experimenting with experiences that move beyond looking: touching, detaching, holding, and being held. Through these works, I seek to create moments in which fixed boundaries briefly loosen, beings become perceptible to one another again, and invisible connections begin to flow once more through the body.
